Wave season

WAVE SEASON

The Mentawai season extends all the way from March to November. The months of March, April, October and November are categorised by consistent, smaller to medium sized swells. As such, these periods have come to be known as the shoulder season. In contrast, the months from May – October offer up consistent, solid surf, picking up the South-Southwest swells generated below the tip of Africa. These swells typically greet South African shores before marching up the Indian ocean and arriving on the coral reefs off the Mentawai Islands. Consistent surf is seen throughout this period with head-high to well-overhead waves. Bear this in mind when choosing the time of year you’d like to join us. If you’re after epic, pumping waves then we’d suggest you plan your trip any time from May – October. Otherwise, if you’re looking for less crowds and mellower swells, shoulder season is the time for you!
